Problem with old version of Windows Media Player Control loading in browser loading instead of new version

I have Windows XP Home Edition and Windows Media Player 11 installed on my computer and whenever I try and play an Internet radio station on some websites using either of my installed browsers Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, it loads Windows Media Player Control version 6.0 and the station will not play. The specific error message supplied is: "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class  (Error=80040111)".

My question is: why is it even loading a very old version of the Windows Media Player Control and not the latest Windows Media Player 11 control like other websites do? And, secondly, has anyone encountered this or a similar problem? Any idea on a resolution and/or workaround?
I look forward to hearing from anyone and what they have to offer. If you need additional details, please follow-up and let me know.

Thank you,
Doug Mehus
