I have a similar question about my disc. Are you saying that the reason I don't have one is because I don't physically own the program? I want to reformat my PC and I need the xp disc so is paying $10 the only way to get it?

The physical disc. Check the options on any new system. The standard charge is $10. You do not own the copy of XP, only the license to use it.

You are not always charged for the cd. But the option was listed when ordering the computer. You could have chosen just the PC Restore partition--the default-- or added the cd for $8-$10. Be polite.

Call Dell. It's worth the $10 they will charge you.

Contact Dell at one of the links in this post and request an XP reinstallation CD.

I have not heard of anyone who received a CD through this procedure being charged for it.

Treu enough on the charge, but any newly ordered system is chargaed $10 for the disc.

Hmmm. I just tried to create the disc like the page said but when I go into Dell Accessories I'm not given the option "Dell OS Recovery CD". Is there any particular reason for this?

Yes. Despite the fact that the feature continues to be described in Dell support literature it has not been available on new systems for several months.

Ok...I just thought of a question...In selecting my re-installation options for my Dimension E310, could I have choosen not to have the partition?  to me, the partition is easier, but I was just wondering.  I mostly use my PC for surfing the net and my ipod.

Denny,

Yes, that's what I was talking about.  That was just something that I was wondering about.

amygiac,

If you are talking about the partition with the image for PC Restore, that is not an option. All new systems will include it whether or not the XP reinstallation CD is ordered.
