USB Drivers for Windows XP Service Pack 2

I am trying to re-install my USB drivers. (DELL Dimension 4550, Purchased with Windows XP Home, SP 1, Upgraded subsequently to SP 2) My DELL ResourceCD has drivers and instructions for installation. These instrutions are, in brief: "In Driver Upgrade, "Select ECHI package folder." I do, and things proceed without difficulty. Then the final step for upgrade is to "Go to where the files extracted from the ResourceCD are located and from QFE folder execute Q312370_WXP_SP1_X86_ENU.exe." I try but execution is rejected because the executable is not for the Windows XP Version currently installed. The file can not be executed because it is intended for SP1 (Service Pack 1) and I (and probably the rest of the world) have installed SP2. Where can I find the correct Q312370.WXP... executable for USB installation for Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2?

As best as I can see you don't need it (Q312370_WXP_SP1_X86_ENU.exe).  Q312370 refers to a Microsoft fix for USB prior the SP1.  Google for Q312370 and you get an explaination of it.  The USB 2.0 drivers with the required fix is part of SP1 and above.

generally speaking, USB drivers are included with windows and you don't have to do anything else.  are you having problems?

did you reinstall windows recently?
