Upgrade for my Inspiron 1525 Laptop from Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bits to Windows 7 or 8 and then to Windows 10

Hi,

I have been looking for a solution to upgrade my Inspiron 1525 laptop, preinstalled with Vista Home Premium 32 bits when I bought it.
The target is to prepare path to upgrade to Windows 10.
I need Windows 7 or 8 to start with.

I could not find a way on Dell website.

Many thanks in advance !

Hi,

Thank you for writing to us!

We would like to inform you that the Inspiron 1525 is not tested for windows 10 and we would not suggest that you upgrade the version of windows

Kindly private message the service tag and email address.

Thanks

Best to use the Unofficial Windows 10130 Insider Preview Path several have tested on an Inspiron 1525 or Latitude D630 (which has similar hardware) and reported it to run well:

Hi,

Thank you Robin for Windows 10 information.
I was asking about Windows 7 and 8. Maybe I was not so clear, sorry.

I could see my Inspiron 1525 laptop tested for them but I cannot find on Dell website the key for upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bits to similar in Windows 7 or 8.
Where can I find such?

Thanks.

Hi Philip,

Many thanks.

I forgot to add that I added 2GB for RAM as original was delivered with only 2 GB RAM.
I will print this link and see how I can manage.

First, my urging point was upgrading to Windows 7 or 8.
I could find my notebook tested for them on the Dell list but nowhere in their website could I get the key (or similar).

Bests.

Hi again Robin,

I have been trying to send you in PM but your pseudo is not recognized.
Sorry, I am new here.

I activated PMs from any user so you can send my a link or similar to provide you with latest updates on my Notebook (service tag and RAM added to original upon delivery).

Many thanks!

If you want Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 you need to purchase a Retail key. Both these versions of Windows have reached End of Retail Sales and as a consequence are hard to buy. You can buy a Windows 10 license pretty easily (which will be cheaper than a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license).

However if you use the 10130 Insider Preview as a stepping stone to get the Free Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Note some people have also provided feedback on the Inspiron 1525 and this unofficial upgrade path...

Dell have only tested Windows 7 for basic functionality on this system. All Inspiron 1525's had expired warranty by the time Windows 8 was released so Dell didn't test it. They certainly won't test it for Windows 10.

It however works perfectly well on Windows 10 and here is one of the comments from my guide:

"

Successful 64 bit install today on:
Dell Precision WorkStation 390
OS: Windows XP Professional 2/8/2007
BIOS: Dell 2.0.8 10/24/2006
Processor: 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM, 80GB HDD

Also 2/28/2016 successful 64 bit install on:
Dell Inspiron 1525
OS: Windows Vista Business 12/2008
BIOS: Dell A16 10/16/2008
Processor: 2.00GHz Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200
2GB RAM, 250GB HDD

Thank you for providing this path to refresh these two old machines.
