Use of the 'Optimize and defragment' drive function (Windows 8.1)
I bought my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15z, in January this year, and recently moved from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. I am a home user.
When I choose OS(C:) → Properties → Optimize and defragment drive → Optimize button, the ‘Optimize Drives’ window now lists the following drive as the fourth of 4 items:
\\?\Volume{7492b753-31c9-47aa-b1bf-dacd5852fdd}\
It is listed as Media type ‘hard disk drive’, and under Current status is the report “Needs optimization (90% fragmented)’. However when I press the button ‘Optimize’ it does nothing: the message is simply repeated. What is this drive, and why can’t I optimize it in the same way as the other ‘hard disk drive’ types on my computer?. Is the extensive fragmenting serious? The percentage has increased since I last ran this function.
Grateful for any advice.

I have the same thing show up on my computer except its a different volume number.

Ditto---now 88% fragmented but different file: \\?\Volume{2a20fe7a-b289-478b-9f7c-0f43b79e906d}\
What the heck is it? And why won't it defrag? Any techies out there who can answer this?
