Verify Windows XP version of Customer Service CD
Hi,
I purchased an operating system CD with my Dell Insiron E1505. The part number and description on my parts list is:
UT879 Kit, Software, Overpack, WXPPSP2 Compact Diskette W/documentation, English
which is exactly what I wanted. However, when I look at the label on the distribution CD, all is labelled:
E86-00289
and described as:
Windows XP professional English NA CustSvc CD
and when I look at the version numbers of the files on the CD, they look pretty old.
How can I verify that this is Windows XP SERVICE PACK 2?

How sure are you that this is the original CD that came with that computer? Nearly always, the service pack level will be listed on the CD, so if it doesn't have it, I might assume it to be pre-SP1 (Gold). The product key will not care what the SP level, but if you're worried about it, you can use nLiteOS.com to integrate/ensure SP2 (or better yet, SP3) is on your installation media.
