According to the Task Scheduler Help, "You can also set a condition that tells the task to wake the computer from sleep mode to run the task when the trigger is activated"
When you created the task, did you check "Wake the computer to run this task" on the "Conditions" tab? (Note - you must use the "Create task..." option - NOT the "Create Basic task" option).
BTW - In order to run a scheduled task that YOU (not the system or your AV program, etc.) create, I think you must be logged on with a UserName AND Password. Perhaps someone else can correct me if I'm wrong on this.
This isn't a Vista issue since the same thing happens when using XP. Your PC has to awake for it to run. Just schedule it to run during the day when your either not act your desk or when your PC activity is in a low demand period. Also run other virus programs such as Windows Defender, Ad-Aware, Spybot as well as McAfee. You will find that no one program does it all. I had one man bring me his PC to fix becasue his IP provider has banned him from their network due to a virus (spam mail). He had Norton and we couldn't find the problem even with their technical support. After much troubleshooting I used all the programs above except McAfee and found the virus was embedded in Norton's quarnatine folder. Norton and the other main stream virus programs which are so popular are targets for the virus program writers. It just pays to have as many eyes watching your PC.
I hope this helps and also the programs mentioned are free. Now that is a real deal.
OK - I figured out the task scheduler which is pretty cool. Thanks. I just never bothered in XP. Now, I just need to know the actual file name used to run the MacAfee Virus scan. So far, I've just clicked on the icons for the Security Center and then run the program from there.
When setting up the scheduler I have to browse and choose the correct file in MacAfee. There are a lot, so it's a bit confusing. Would anyone know the correct program to use?
I was able to set up a schedule for Windows Defender with no problem.
