Vista upgrade-Nortons Internet security

Good day all. I recently upgraded my Laptop (XPS M1210) with Vista Home Premium and it came with the Norton Internet Security. After all was installed, I kept getting errors in regards to Norton's program not configured properly. I tried clicking on the continue button to "fix" the configuration problem, but that wouldn't work. I tried running Live Update, but it came back with an error stating it couldn't download updates. I finally just uninstalled the program. Any idea on what Vista Disc I can use to re-install Norton's? Please advise. Thanks.

If the Internet Security is 2007, go to the Symantec website and download the Vista compatibility package. This will update the program to run in Vista.

I would install norton and then go to their web site ( symantec.com) look for vista upgrade, that link will scan your system and then advise you on your situation. If you know you product key(should have come with norton disc) have it on hand. You can even call them. Just go to the web page for help.

When you reveived your laptop, did you get Norton free for a certain amount of time. If so didn't you have to activate it? I know I did. I also received a disc....anyway, let's start at the beginning,  were you running norton before the upgrade?

Thanks. I don't have any disc's. When I received my Laptop, it wasn't installed on computer; then I got the Vista upgrade discs (2) and after it was installed, I noticed the Internet Security on Laptop. Is it maybe on one of those two discs? Any suggestions?

It depends on the subscription length, mine(NIS 2006) is 15 months starting late November 2006, and I got an upgrade to  NIS 2007.

Thanks Roger. I had the Norton Security Center with no internet security. Then I installed the Vista Upgrade and noticed the Internet Security in addition. Everything worked, I registered it, and it downloaded updates. I rebooted, then the Internet Security stated it wasn't configured correctly. That's when I clicked on the continue button (as advised) but nothing happened. I tried Live Update, but it errored out. Not sure what disc it came from during Vista Upgrade. Maybe I'll try to explore the disc and re-install, but there is no seperate norton's disc.

This is what I had prior to Vista upgrade. I just got the computer in January. I guess I should of dug a little deeper. I probably have the disc with the initial discs that came with laptop, but I do know there is not one specifically saying NIS 2006. You think then I will have to upgrade to NIS 2007?

If it is NIS 2006, it is not upgradeable for Vista. You will have to buy NIS 2007. My E1505 built in December came with a 3-month subscription to NIS 2006.

No you don't have to buy 2007, Symantec will upgrade it for you. Here's what you can do: go to Dell Support, tell them you accidentally unistall Norton in which you have a 15 month subscription, ask how to get it back on your computer. After you get it back on your computer go to Symantec.com and get it upgraded to 2007, click on download tab(top of the page), on left hand side look for feature updates for 2006 customer, click on and you can upgrade to NIS 2007 it also as an add-on  you have to download also.

I'm sorry; I was wrong. Symantec web site does say that NIS 2006 is eligible for a "free compatibility update"

Thank you. I found the disc from original install discs and reloaded. Then went to Symantec and upgraded/updated. Works fine now.
