W32 Virus

I have Norton Anti-Virus and it tells me have the W32
virus and it gives me the location of where it is.  When
I go to that location, the file is not there.  Also, when
I do a system scan, nothing comes up as infected.  When
it tells me that I have the virus, it won't let me do
anything about it.  Does anyone know a way that I can get
this off my computer before it does any damage?

drque,

W32 is the start of the name of a whole range of viruses. What is the full name that NAV is giving you, and where does it say the virus is located?

Check your quarantine folder (open NAV, click on Reports and under Quarantined Items click the "View Report" button). In most cases, if Norton detects a virus it quarantines the file that contains the virus. This file would not show up on a virus scan. If the virus is there, simply delete it.

Denny...........

I see you are a regular here...........so I am hoping you are also a whiz..........please say you are!   I have been sent the gift of the   W32.Spybot.Worm ....... from some generous individual.   I find my computer and I don't really like this gift and would like to return it.   However, we have tried everything known to man and keep coming up Infected.

I have tried the fix of turning off restore and then deleting the name of the virus.   It comes right back.   I tried the fix of "regetit"..............when I type that if shows the screen for 2 seconds and then disappears, thus not allowing me to delete in specific "keys".

I am a desperate woman here.....................there are wads of hair all around my computer chair.......please..........please.................tell me how to get rid of this thing..........where I can find a patch...............how to do it......................(and a good wig manufacturer).

Thank you kind person!!!!!

Jane

To get rid of pretty much any virus, use a program called stinger by mcafee. You can download it free here:http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/. It works wonders. You also need to make sure that you update windows to help prevent a future virus and prevent the sasser. Also you can run a few other programs like CWShredder and HijackThis to remove any other reminents of the virus.
