What is the difference between BIOS version/date and SMBIOS

One thread here suggested to a Microsoft site to resolve problems with hibernation issues.[Suggested by Dell's moderator]

The M-Soft site advies to have the latest BIOS.

As suggsested I tried to varify my version.
I get the following:

BIOS version : Dell Inc 2.4.2 30/3/2007

SMBIOS 2.3

I know fron Dell's Drivers & Downloads that my BIOS is the latest version. However I am not able to undestand as to what does SMBIOS means?
Am I uptodate with BIOS or Not?

Can anybody help me understand?
Thanking you

For information on SMBIOS go here.

You can also obtain the latest version, 2.5 at this location.

You cannot "elevate" your question here. This forum is user to user. It is not advisable to get any bios updates anywhere else. Only the manufacturer should supply bios updates & you don't need any.

Hi Mary G
Thanking you for that.
Can you help me in this please.

My SMBIOS version is 2.3. [My BIOS version is Dell Inc 2.4.2]
Now, I went to the site suggested by Dell-ChrisM for the problems with wakeup issues where it is suggested that one need to have the latest SMBIOS.

So How could I know if the SMBIOS version of mine the latest?

Thank you for your thoughts on this matter.
