Windows 7 on Latitude D810

Thank you for trying to help me. I looked everywhere and of course there no driver on the DELL web site. The best I found is the "catalyst" package from AMD but what I don't understand is why while it well recognize the X300 ATI RADEON card, it doesn't set and doesn't permit to set the right size of the screeen

Although the system doesn't have a Windows 7 32 bit driver for the Video.

It does have a Windows Vista 32 bit driver for the Video which can be used with Windows 7 32 bit. Unfortunately Dell has no mention of this file but if you go to the XP file and select over versions it will take you to it.

This file is R153383 and installation of this should solve the video problems.

I recommend you to install the following in order however:

R282539 Dell System Software

R140623 Intel Chipset

R165177 PCI Cardbus

R153383 ATI Radeon X300

R140031 Alps Glidestick

R99254 Audio

R295615 Dell Wireless or Intel Website Intel Wireless

R231570 Bluetooth (if you have it)

R151443 or R156212 Dell Quickset

Windows 7 should have the Ethernet and modem drivers inbuilt. Please let me know what ones work and don't work.

R153383 try installing that in compatibility mode for Windows Vista. Go to C:\Dell\Drivers\R153383

Right click the setup file and select properties.

Select compatibility and then change to Windows Vista. Then run the setup as normal. Could also try the one here

Intel driver was the wrong one, I looked at another system sorry try this one here. This might need compatibility mode also.

The Quickset is as I expected, you will need to install the XP driver in compatibility mode. I had to do this in an Inspiron 1300 before:

Now install the Inspiron 1300's (the same file for the Latitude D810) XP Quickset in compatibility mode.

Also change on the start menu.

Next use task schedular. Start it via a search from the start menu.

Go to actions > Create Basic Task

Follow the wizard, Name: Dell Quickset,< Next>  Trigger: When I log on  Action: Start Program select program, navigate to C:\Program Files\Quickset and click on the Quickset Icon. Then click finish. Almost done, at this stage it worked but I got a UAC prompt everytime I powered up.

The next step is to find Dell Quickset in the Task Schedular Library. Double click it and edit its general properties.

Check run with highest privileges. Now go to the triggers tab edit triggers

Change "Specific User" to "Any User" and make sure enabled is checked at the bottom left. Click .

1)    For the Radeon X300 I found a set of drivers which seems to work perfectly: “10-2-mobile_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc_mod.exe”. So this trouble seems to be solved.
2)    For the WIFI, curiously after uninstalling the wrong Intel drivers, I rebooted and I had the idea to test (we never know…) and it worked at the first attempt, it just asked me for the key and it worked well. I unplugged the Ethernet wire to test and it is fully functional. This right driver probably came with Windows Update. So this trouble is also solved
3)    For Quickset, I have downloaded R157261 (version A45) and I set the "setup.exe" file to Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. After installing, I also set the XP compatibilty mode for all the EXE file in the Quickset directory. After that, I followed exactly what you advised and it seems to work correctly. Of course we need complementary testing but for now it seems OK. I will do that in a couple of days.
4)     For Bluetooth, all the tests have to be done, but I'll do that tomorrow. Today we have made a big step.

Can you provide me a link to the Video driver which worked for you? I have been helping a number of people with unsupported Windows 7 upgrades and have been writing some wikies here where I would like to add the D810.

It is incredible that I couldn't find this file on the AMD website.

I tested Blueooth and the pairing was working well with my HTC TP2.  Unfortunately, the software that would be able to exchange with this device is not installed yet.

Up to now, I find Windows 7 more fluid and running  faster than Windows XP (D810 with 2.13GHZ processor and 4GB RAM),

Hi All,

For those interested, I have finished my Windows 7 install on my Dell Latitude D810. All my programs (a lot) has been reinstalled and tested at about 50% up to now.

The computer works a lot better than under Windows XP (2.133GHZ & 2GB RAM). If I encounter some troubles I will report here, but I advice to go that way...

I don't know what is my Experience Index, but I was System Engineer on IBM mainframe (MVS, OS390, IMS...). All the computers work on the way, even if the languages are different.

Even if I didn't wrote any code for at least 20 years, I am always able to write a program in Assembler 360. So I have a certain experience of the "IT problem determination". I have been taught at the traditional  IBM school. For me, on Windows, the main problem is the lack of rigor and severity. A lot of things are wonderful and a lot better done that by the "good old time" but  you are always looking for something which is missing somewhere, you spend more time on the web than to really produce something. I always ask me how newbies can do to have an operational computer from day to day. To illustrate that, I looked everywhere to find my video drivers and downloaded perhaps several tens of file and I finally found the right one by the biggest chance, not by any knowledge or expertise.
But always ready to help when I can do...

Oh, sorry I didn't  know what it is.

I looked at that, but I am afraid it is not so reliable. I have a DELL Latitude D830 with Intel Core Duo T7500 2x2.2ghz, 4GB RAM and SATA disks, its index is 2.2.  The other one is a D810 with Intel Pentium M 2.13ghz, 2GB RAM and IDE system disk and here the index is 2.0.

I wonder why there is so few difference between these two systems, while the D830 is a lot more responsive and faster.

BTW where did you find the DELL logo file just  under the Microsoft one ?
