Windows 98 and firewire?

Friend and I tried to help install JVC GF-DVM70 camera video software on NEC ( she should have bought Dell) computer. She has Windows 98 OS. jWe tried to connect camera to PC to edit video, etc. We would receive Windows Connect Error. We would select the different Com ports but never could get the device detected. We did install the drivers too.

Her camera connect to firewire port on her computer. Device Manager shows no errors. The firewire port shows as Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller.

Any suggestions please.
