Windows XP re-installation on Dimension 2400

I recently attempted to reinstall XP Professional on my Dimension 2400 using the CD's that came with the system. After the installation completes the system reboots and the starting Windows appears. After two or three scrolls of the blue progress bar the system freezes. I have attempted two fresh installations as well as a third using a different CD and a different hard drive but had the same results. To make things even more confusing, I took the hard drive to work and put it in a PC with similar hardware and it booted fine !!! Then took it home that night and experienced the same freeze problem. I disconnected all hardware and made sure there was no problem with the RAM.

Can anyone suggest anything?

priv1,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

It could be a different hardware problem causing this to happen. It could also be an overheating issue. Open the system to make sure the fans are working and clean out any dust in the system. Make sure it it turned off and unplug before opening system.

You can also run the diagnostics on the hardware to see if it shows any issues.
