WordPerfect update

WordPerfect came with my Dimension 2400 computer ; however, when I send attachments via email, the recipients are unable to open them. I received several update notifications from COREL for WordPerfect Version 11 and when I try to install, I get the following message:
"The upgrade patch can't be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or may update a different version."

Not sure what's going on! Can you help?

Normally when a recipient can't open an attachment they don't have the necessary software A link should be provided for a download.

Too, pop-up-blockers can prevent them fron opening. (security)

Experiencing the same thing on a Dell OEM install on an Inspiron 1100.  Would appreciate any help in updating WP 11.

I wish I could help you, but I haven't been able to update. I still get the same message over and over. I don't know what the problem is. If you finally get it resolved, I'd appreciate your telling me how to update it.

The Corel WordPerfect support site lists a special download version for the Dell OEM version of WordPerfect Office 11. However there is nothing said about the WordPerfect Office 12 Standard edition that we purchased with our Dell machines. The WPO12 SP2 gets the same error noted in this thread.

Who do we contact? I would think Corel should be providing a solution since it is their product and their update, even though our copy of WPO12 is a Dell OEM item. ???

After a query to Corel here is their response:

"Service pack 2 applies to the following products.

You can apply this service pack to WordPerfect® Office 12 Service Pack 1 (12.0.0.288). This service pack patches the following editions of WordPerfect Office:

Standard Edition
Professional Edition
Student and Teacher Edition
Trial Edition
Small Business Edition

Your have the productivity pack and it won't apply to your version.

Regards,

Corel Customer Support Services"

I assume the serial number I provided indicated a "Productivity Pack" version was acquired through Dell. Further research indicates that an OEM productivity package was a "special deal" of Corel's to entice hardware vendors such as Dell to sell a low cost office package, with apparently no support, to unsuspecting end users such as us.

Another piece of the puzzle --

I asked this question of Corel support:
"Thank you for your reply about SP3 not being applicable to the Dell Productivity Package version of WordPerfect Office 12. Since SP1 was good for that version, will there ever be an SP2 for it? (When purchased through Dell, we did not receive any information that indicated that we were getting anything other than a fully supported WPO.)
Thank you."

And got this reply --
"Your Corel product was purchased from an OEM vendor and does not qualify for free support via email. OEM or "bundled" software is sold at a discounted price to our manufacturing partners and does not include the cost of technical support."

So there it is folks - no support from either the seller (Dell) or Corel (developer).

The question is, when is Dell going to get sued class-action style for mis-representing the software alledgedly being sold as Corel WordPerfect 12, when it is in fact not the same as the retail version?

This same cannot be said of the Dell offering of Microsoft Office 2003. Even the "Basic" version is fully compatible with all updates offered directly by Microsoft.

It is shameful that Corel even makes this limited incompatible version available, but Dell is the organization obligated to provide support. Dell just does a pathetic job of it.

Where is WP12 SP2 or SP3 ?

Corel has just recently released WordPerfect Office 12 Service Pack 3 (WPO12 SP3). This Service Pack contains all the updates included in SP1 and SP2 and can be applied to the Dell OEM versions of WPO12.

or go to Corel.com and select support then select OEM Software - Dell WordPerfect 12 support. Then -downloads - patches & updates, then - WordPerfect Office 12 Standard Edition. Then select WordPerfect Office 12 Service Pack 3 (61.5 MB).

Kudos to Corel for including the OEM versions to it's update support ! !

Okay, I downloaded the WordPerfect Office 12 Service Pack 3 (WPO12 SP3) and get the following error when I run the service pack.

Error 1334. The file 'isuspm.cpl.C3A146F5_4B48_11D5_A819_00B0D0428C0C' cannot be installed becaused the file cannot be found in the cabinet file 'UpdateIS.cab'.  This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

Anybody else getting this error.  Any suggestions on what to do next.
