XP Maintenance

Hello

 Have a new Dell 2400 with XP  and was wanting to know  what should be done for proper Maintenance and how often??

I scan disk, defrag and Norton virus scan weekly. I signed up for virus patch notices on microsoft's website and download the patches as soon as they become available. I'm no expert but this has worked for me and have had no trouble.

Regarding computer maintenance, the following was helpful to me: http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
 
1. Install Windows updates. To obtain updates, go to your tool menu on your browser and click "Windows Updates". Microsoft will review your computer and determine what updates you need.
 
2. Clean Disk- Click "All Programs", go to "Accesories", then to  "System tools", then to "Disk cleanup". The following article explains disk cleanup in more detail. http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_cleanup_utility.htm
 
3. Remove spryware and adware with following programs

4. Anti Virus program: If you don't have one, here is a link to free download:  http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php
