XP updates causing Low disc space

How much disc space should XP take up, as with all the updates my 10 GB partition on my old laptop, keeps warning of low disc space.

Can I delete any update backups if there are any?

Windows folder states 7.37 GB

Laptop has 2- 10 GB partitions

XP does store backups of the updates in case you want to un-install them. There is a freeware program that I have used for just  removing the backups. Google for it.

Have you cleared all your system and internet temporary files?

You could also reduce the number of saved restore points to regain hdd space.

I think if you delete created system restore files, the size of your disk will be improved some GB. To delete them do like below:

1) Go to my computer and right click on your windows partition.

2) Click on Properties then on Disk clean up.

3) Then click on more options.

4) And then on System restore part, click on clean up.

I think it will solve your problem without need to delete windows updates.

Thanks for the post Bestis1980.

As I explained to Bacillus's post I have already cleared system and internet files and have minimum restore points but only gained 220mb making a total of 480mb left to use.

I Googled and downloaded the program you suggested ieee488.

The program erased an astonishing 1.7 GB of backups it stated over 20 minutes with about 20 folders/files it could not touch till I erased them later one by one.

I have now increased my restore amount to 385MB Leaving 1.5 GB free on the drive, Windows states.

I can now continue to use my old laptop as well my newer Dell PC without the low disc space problem occurring regularly.

Thanks.:emotion-1:
