I already did the owner shiptransfer. and customer service said it went through..now I call back and Tech service says! it didn't go through?? whats wrong here..I just got word from customer service he said I can't download the operating system that is on my laptop insprion 1525 which is running windows vista home basic..what a waste of 6 weeks of trying to get a disc that is no longer....
You can install using "retail" media, then activating using the product key on the sticker on your system (usually requires activation by phone).
You cannot download Windows from Dell. Once/if they get your ownership issue resolved, they will only send you an installation DVD.
Better yet you can use the Digital River media to clean install and the Activation and Backup Program with Dell files to activate which saves the need for calling Microsoft or Dell.
To download the Digital River .isos and create a bootable USB see here:
For details about the Activation and Backup Program see here:
For details about Windows installation see my Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows Vista:
The link above does take you to Digital River media (in the round-about way heidoc seems to take with everything from the how-to on creating the media).
