error on install of updated wireless driver

I'm trying to install R189136 driver to update my wireless utilities on my Inspiron 1520 and as soon as I run setup it gives me an error "'Update.cpp 455' has occurred and setup cannot continue"

My real motivation is that for some reason the wireless utility with the little green signal bars in the system tray went away and I have no idea how to get it back.  It's not in any of the program menus.  The windows one won't work so I'm stuck without wireless until I can locate that utility.

Help?
