outlook express

Computer information. Dell Dimesion 4500 P4 2.4 GHz/512k , 512MB 266Mz DDr RAM 80GB HD

Outlook Express frequently and randomly hangs up when changing from one identity to another.  It appears that the OE display disappears; rebooting can only be acieved by rebooting the computer.  Any ideas?

It occurs to me that maybe I should use Outlook for e.mail; how do I go about transferring from Oe to Outlook?  Is it possible to transfer filed messages, addresses etc.?

29029,

The procedure to correct the error in Outlook Express is here.

You can import your messages and address book into Outlook by going to File|Import and Export|Internet Mail and Addresses|Outlook Express 4.x, 5.

Another problem with switching identities in OE is discussed here:

Dear Denny,

Thanks for the helpful reply.  The symptoms described in the MS article seem to be exactly what is affecting me!  The constant drill down through the MS technical information is a bit of a nightmare but I think I now know what to do.

To BBlackie,

Thanks for the help.  This dosn't sound like my problem but you never know!

No problem.  I presumed that you were using WinXp and OE 6.0, so I posted the article that deals with those.  Denny's link doesn't include those circumstances, but may very well work.

It might very well be ok if you find the registry key that the article mentioned.  At worst, it doesn't resolve the issue and you can change it back.

Thanks for your original help.  Does the guidance apply also to Oe 6.0? The MS article refers only to earlier versions.

A good point, I hadn't spotted that Denny's link related to earlier versions.
