windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown
Hello, I have recently purchased a DellXPS 1330, and ever since I have had it there are problems with the shutdown. Everytime I shutdown with the start menu shutdown, the computer never completely shutsdown. I have to end up using the keyboard power button to shut down. I have read alot of posts of people having the same problem, but can never find a clear cut solution. Here are problem details that come up under the "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" window that pops up every time I start my computer. it then states that "windows can check online for a solution to the problem". I have already tried turning off the "automatic restart" in advanced options on the control panel, and I also have adjusted my power options making sure the start menu shutdown option is on shutdown and not hibernate. I have also made sure I have all of vistas updates as well as the service pack 1.
Please help!!!

Hi! Also, I have exacly the same problem. My Laptop is a Dell E1505. After commanding to turn off, the computer goes to shutdown blue screen and will stay like that for about five minutes until restarts it self.
I have updated windows vista with all the drivers and updates available including the service pack 1. I have reported the problem over 31 times using Vista tools. No progress so far. We need help!

This seems to be a common problem with Vista. My laptop has to have the battery yanked out to shut down. At first I thought it was a Dell problem, but a friend's HP does exactly the same thing. It's a Vista bug (among many), the message about "unexpected shutdown" doesn't seem to affect the system at all. I think everything has been shut down already, it just can't finish the job.

It's hit and miss with VISTA and computers as far as the "unexpected shutdown" problems.
Looking at my reliability information, I show 7 or 8 on 1 420 since November, but only 4 on the second 420. Since Feb of 07, my Toshiba shows 2, one Feb 07, the other yesterday. My E1705 shows 3 in the last year....so who knows. No rhyme or reason, just Windows Recovered from Unexpected Shutdown.
I can't seem to get a consistent reading as to why and when, so troubleshooting is difficult, so I just ignore it.
I figure as long as it recovers, I am ok.

After reading countless posts...this is definitly a problem with vista's compatiblitly with other software/drivers installed on the computer...so i have found various ways of fixing the issue depending on what specific compatibility issue it is. I think i have fixed mine, al least for now. My windows was telling me that it was a problem with trendmicro software. i had all of the updates for pc-cillin, so i couldnt figure out what was the problem. finally i found this link:
http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/viewxml.do?ContentID=EN-1036847&id=EN-1036847
on the support page and downloaded the hotfix that they recommended.
my computer shuts down properly now, but I am sure it is just a matter of time before vista finds something else that keeps is from shuting down.
hope this helps.

I have a problem with my XPS 14z DELL bought less than 2 months ago.
Repeatedly I got UNEXPECTED SHUTDOWNs. ( it is like sudden power cut - I think this is may be battery disconnect for while).
I have windows 7 home premium installed.
In the Events I have it as a critical event. last time I got this error today morning.
