WDM 4.8.5 failing to communicate with R50L clients.

WDM 4.8.5 failing to communicate with R50L clients.

We have WDM 4.8.5, and lots of brand new R50L running Suse 11.1.015.
Clients are connecting and appearing in the console, so I've got my DHCP correct.
I can change the device info successfully, but not much else.
Reboot, WOL, and particularly Get Device Configuration will not work.
Using Get Device Configuration, and can see in the ftp logs that WDM creates a folder ready for the new configuration, but then silence. No attempts from the client IP to do any FTP. In fact running WireShark it doesn't look to me as though WDM sends anything to the client to ask it to dump its configuration.
Is there anything else I need to setup? (I don't need PXE boot for this do I???)
Any suggestions where to look to troubleshoot?
thanks,
Bob

You should not use the device configuration for Linux. That is typically used for CE thin clients.
You should reference the SUSE admin guide to setup the FTP or HTTP server path to feed the units a wlx.ini file with all the configuration information. Each unit will boot up, automatically via DHCP option tags, read the wlx.ini file that contains all the connections and configuration. This is also the best way to upgrade the thin clients using the firmware files found on the Wyse support download site.
