WSM and Z00D- Streaming Windows 7

WSM and Z00D- Streaming Windows 7

We have been doing some testing this past week and have come up on an issue we are not sure about.

First, with WSM we are able to create an image of one of our XP desktops and apply to another desktop of the same hardware specifications.
We are able to create a Windows 7 32 bit image from one of the Z00D clients and stream it back to that Z00D client.

We are having trouble with streaming that Windows 7 image to the second Z00D client. We have been unable to create or stream anything to that second client. The client will boot, it recognizes the PXE, it obtains a ip address, it authenticates to WSM finds the right image, but when it gets to the initial Windows 7 start-up screen (black screen with nothing but the MS logo) it stops. Near as I can tell all network traffic stops after it gets to that point. We had that client on a hub and it has a light meter measuring traffic and all lights stop when the boot process gets to that point.

The first Z00D client boots fine from its original image. The second client will not.

We have tried different network locations, direct connection, on a switch on a hub and each time the first client boots but the second client does not. We have tried the second client with and without the first client connected. We have tried switching cables, resetting each piece of equipment and the whole system. We are kind of out of guesses at this point.

The following hot fix needs to be applied to your Z class Windows 7 image BEFORE you create your vdisk image:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2344941
If this is not applied then your OS image will not stream properly to other Z class devices. This only effects Windows 7 images.
MS has broken this hotfix with SP1 for Windows 7, so do not use SP1 at this time!

I had the same problem yesterday and applied the hotfix for SP1 on a WSM private image assigned to the reference device: it worked, I didn't had to create the vdisk again: the other thin client now is booting up with the same image.
Thanks a lot

Talking MS release HF for SP1

Microsoft recently released the same hotfix for Windows 7 Service Pack 1: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;2550978

Check that your 2 clients have the same BIOS level and use the very same HW platform and BIOS configuration.
