Wyse 5070 Rename Computer

We received a batch of Wyse 5070s a few weeks ago and everything has been going well getting them set up.  Just received a new batch a couple of days ago and everything is good except for some reason when I rename these computers and restart, when it comes back up the name is reverted to the original name.  This happens whether I am connected to the domain or if I am in Workgroup.

Not sure if this is related but the only thing I notice that's different between these and the last ones is that there is a folder on the root of the C drive that is named DEW and I cannot access it because it is locked with BitLocker.  The last batch did not have this.

Does anyone have any idea what may be happening?

I just went ahead and pulled the image from one of the older machines and pushed it to the ones having the problem.  That fixed the issue.

Hello,

@burchnb

I am running the same issue

Can you describe how you pulled and pushed your image from old to new device?

Regards

we have the same issue, dell have admitted it's a problem with the OS build and they have no fix at the moment.  i did previously download the OS from here

https://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/product-support/product/wyse-5070-thin-client/drivers

as an ISO and install via USB.

that fixes the issue but it adds around 20 mins to each build.  trying to download further copies of the ISO and it's not working on the dell website, i get "invalid file" just as it gets to the 100%

@DamnIT95 Sorry, I just saw your question.  You can use the Dell Wyse USB Imager to pull an image on one machine and push it to another.

The instructions are here: https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln289677/how-to-create-a-usb-image-stick-for-wyse-thin-clients?lang=en

And you can download the latest version of the tool here: https://ftp.dell.com/wyse/USBFT/

However, I would compare the versions of the machines you are trying to image because I ran into some Windows activation issues.  I think I may have pushed Windows 10 version 2016 onto a machine that originally had version 2019 and I had to call the Microsoft activation assistant to get that sorted out.  You can just click start and type winver to compare the versions.
