Dell XPS 8300 Adding DDR3 1600 Memory
I have the original 8GB memory (four 2-GB DDR3 1333 MHz DIMMS). I want to upgrade to 16GB with four 4-GB DIMMS. If I upgrade to 16GB (four 4GB DDR3 1600 MHz DIMMS), would I benefit from the higher speed of the 1600 Mhz DIMMs? Otherwise, I would go with cheaper 1333 Mhz DIMMS. I am afraid the motherboard may be a limiting factor if go beyond 1333 MHz. Is there a way to find the speed of the motherboard?
Thanks,
Ace

The added memory speed won't be used. This generation of CPUs can run memory at either 1066 MHz or 1333 MHz - none of the CPUs this system supports is capable of running RAM at 1600 MHz.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll buy the 8GB upgrade kit with 2 4GB 1333 MHz dimms.
Does it matter to get high-density ram vs low density?
Thanks,

Probably not on a system this recent, but if you want a compatibility guarantee -- crucial.com is a good choice. Either that, or ask your seller about a compatibility guarantee.
