Dell XPS desktop question

I am looking at getting one of the XPS desktops for home office use. Will need multiple programs running, but don't think any will be particularly highly taxing (no video editing or gaming). I was thinking about the model with i5-11400, 16 gb of ram, no dedicated GPU. Don't think I need the i7 for what I'm doing. My two questions are:

  1. Would that be a good setup for home office use?

  2. How is the cooling? I've read some negatives on the cooling of these models, but I would think with typical daily home office use that should be much of a problem.

Thanks

Based on your reported use I would consider an Optiplex system.  Rather than a "home/consumer" model.

Without a dedicated GPU, graphics run on the CPU chip and use system RAM. So that puts extra loads on both CPU and RAM.

For the XPS 8950, the 12th Gen i5-12400 has 6 cores and supports 12 threads. The 12th Gen i7-12700 has 12 cores and supports 20 threads.

So even if you don't want a dedicated GPU, you might be better off with an i7-12700, and possibly more RAM, depending on how many monitors will be connected, number of apps running, and how many browser windows, Zoom windows, etc are all open at the same time.

For what the OP is asking for This older model precision is a better value and doesn't paint you into a non upgrade-able corner should you decide you DO need a dedicated GPU.
