My Desk Top Dimension 9200/XPS 410 running Win 10 Pro V1909 downloaded through automatic WU this and now require a restart. I am rather anxious as googling of this download shows few with difficulty/problems. I have not restarted my desktop fearing that I may run into problem such as not able to boot or BSOD. is it save to let my desktop restart and if it fails will I be able to reinstall my Win 10 to get my computer work again albeit loosing all my unsaved data on an external HD. I am thankful for your time on this issue.

Intel (R) Chipset SATA Premium controller V17.5.3.1026 is for very new chipsets.
The problem with the 410 is that it only sees MBR Drives.
So if you want to do this you have to leave an OEM System builder DVD inside to boot from or it wont boot ahci due to the INTEL RST 10.1.0.1008 driver being the last version that works for this. If you set all drives to ATA and none are larger than 2TB then WIN10 will install but RST drivers and Raid are not working in this mode.

If nothing else, image your HDD using Macrium Reflect (free) before you reboot. So if things go wrong, you'll have a backup of everything for a quick recovery.

Thank you for the reply.
WU automatically installed this non MS update.
I have set 2 weeks delay for WU to install anything. Despite this the above got downloaded and installed on my desktop.
Could I revert back to older one prior to shut down and will it stop the above update?

INTEL RST 11.7 is no longer available for download
The version you refer is the latest

Not compatible with ancient vacccuum tube chipsets.
Even the older version 14 is too much
9.6 , 10.1, 11.3, 11.7, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 are all end of life and gone.
You cannot download from INTEL anymore.
If you want drivers for ancient XPS 400 410 420 use the Optiplex 960 cab file.

Once downloaded you move the CAB file to MY documents folder
Then install 7ZIP

Then right click on the cab file AND SAY extract here via 7zip.
tHEN RIGHT CLICK on any yellow ! in device manager and say update from my pc instead of the internet.
OEM audio and chipset and intel rst etc will regularly get borked by feature updates.

So I dug up my XPS 410 and after several hours have installed 2004 and its fine.
HOWEVER what you described is not what was installed.
The updated INTEL Driver has to do with vunerability on newest INTEL RST and optane.
Doesnt affect ancient vaccuuum tube Chipset INTEL RST 11.7.0.1013 or earlier. Not supported as far as windows 10 does not mean not working.
Audio and Video and other Legacy Devices will regularly get borked so you will want to download and save the cab files for Optiplex 960 980
as well as the 9010 win 10 cab files.

And save them in the my documents folder.

That way when it says your audio is fine when its not or your video is VGA instead of INTEL Graphics you have access to the drivers you can no longer download from the INTEL site.
