Power surge - System not booting properly

Hi there,

Yesterday I had a power surge while using my Computer and the breaker blew shutting it off.

Now when I boot up my PC I am taken to a black screen that says "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum."

Occasionally I'll also get a screen after that, that is a .exe file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogonUI.exe". It says "Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to unlock". But nothing occurs.

I am running Windows 10. This is a 2012 Dell XPS. The graphics card and power supply are the only newish components, about 4 years old. Everything else is stock from purchase. I've never had an issue like this before.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Boot from a windows 10 installation media via usb drive (you can get it for free directly from Microsoft) and then do a system repair.

That would help I see you tried to upload a image and it is not showing. A moderator may have to fix. It has been a long time since I had a login error. I don't think I ever had one on Windows 10. Is this the error?

Is the OS Windows 7? You said it takes you to a black screen with the error. Windows 8 and later would be a blue screen.

Anyway try doing a startup repair with a Windows 7 disk. And now may be a good time to upgrade to Windows 10. I do have a system still on Windows 7. If you can run it safely then OK just a suggestion after the boot issue is solved.

@Anonymous It used to be Windows 7. But has since been updated to Windows 10 for a few years now.

OK I just never see a error be on a black screen. Maybe because it is on the Winlogin screen the error is coming from Winlogin.exe

If I press ctrl-alt-del it will try to reboot and then follow up with the below picture.

Hopefully these upload properly.

Yeah I'm rather confused. This is a new account if that matters.

They were uploading successfully and I could see them originally.

@Novatox You can see the images, but no one else can until the images are approved by the moderator of this forum. Approval can take a day.

The images are showing now. Copied from another forum.

It looks like you have console mode sign-in enabled. You might see if disabling it using the method in the tutorial below may be able to help.

LogonUI.exe Fix

Maybe this will solve the issue.

I have been unable to put my computer into safe mode. It hardly starts up before just throwing "the file is corrupt" blank message in my face.

The only things I've been able to access are either the boot mode screen/diagnostics and my Aptio Setup Utility.

I have no control over anything once I'm on the "file corrupt" blank page besides pressing ctrl-alt-delete which then throws me to the 2nd blank page that I screenshotted. Once on that page I seem to be able to do absolutely anything.

I very rarely get a startup where I see the windows 10 icon and a loading circle below it before it goes straight to the first blank screen. It's usually just the initial booting page, followed by the Dell icon and then into the error screen.

While I've been writing this I have tried to get my PC to start in safe mode. I started getting the windows icon, as well as a disc check. But then it goes straight to the command prompt asking my to ctrl-alt-delete and not allowing me to do anything.

I managed to get the media running. Did a system repair. No luck though. Am I at this point?

Ended up doing a clean install. Seemed to be the only way, which is fine. Thank you!
