@bobblah   In general are all desktops upgradeable as far as processors go? If I want to add the newest Intel 12th or 13th gen processor in a few years that shouldn't be a problem right?

      . . . no.

There is a lot of proprietary stuffing baked into Dell products, so future upgrades are miss . . . or miss. Hop over to the Alienware forum and search for the happy Aurora R7 owners wanting to upgrade to ninth gen Intel processors. All it would take from Dell is a bios update . . . but they want to sell R10's instead.

@bobblah    So in that case I guess I should wait a bit save up more money and buy the best possible desktop . . .

Consider building your own computer . . . then you have complete control. Do a little research, it is really not that hard.

Just buy an Inspiron and get started, they all keep changing, don't worry about it.

Neither Inspiron or G5 series is recommended.  For the same money 8930 is a better buy.   Proprietary power supplies are nonsense.

The 3670 Inspiron is a lot less and doesn't have the jet engine fan racing problems. Probably what I will get next.

@546insp    The 3670 Inspiron is a lot less  . . .

It has an 8-pin ATX power connector (instead of 24-pin) and a 290 watt PSU . . . so yeah, it is a lot less computer

@bobblah    after discounts was only a little over $500

WOW, that is a great price for an Aurora R9. What components did you get (CPU, PSU, VGA)?
