My XPX 8500 has a 1703 802.11 b/g/n which operates at 2.4 GHz. Is it possible to upgrade to a WLAN card supporting 5.0 GHz?

My guess would be no, because it is not just the card but also the antenna. Your best bet is probably an add-in PCI wireless card if you have a free PCI slot..

Safest best way is to remove the internal card and use DUAL Band AC600 USB based adapter.
Works out of the box plug and play with windows 8 or 10.
