I was finally able to plug the Fan connector thanks to the small hands of my partner :D:D
The only think I don't like is that power cable that runs on the fan..
I removed also the metallic brackets for the additional hard drives so to faciliate air flow
The power supply unit cables are a little mess , very big and diffucult to fit on the small space.
I wanted to move my hard drive to the bottom of my case but the metallic bracket for the hard drive is too big and won't fit so I had to keep all as it is.
Next week I will install the additional fan on the bottom of the case and wait the RTX 2080 S ,but I would say that the most complicated part is done.
In terms of CPU Cooling , I am really impressed , there is a gain of 15 degress for each core.
One of the cores hit 90 degrees once but for the rest it was on 80-85 when on high load.
whilst before I had all cores above 90 degrees when playing in VR and streaming/recording.
@Alle82when plugging in the ATX 24 PIN , I noticed that on the other hand there are 2 connectors.. Should I plug both on the PSU?
EDIT: OK, I see you got it all figured out. Great job!
Yes. If you got that Corsair 850 watt PSU, there will be a label in white letters "24PIN ATX". Below that label is a 10-pin connector and an 18-pin connector. That is where the 24-pin plugs in on the PSU side.
Can I plug in the GTX 1070 on the motherboard powered up by the Corsair 850 ?
Yes. You can use your current graphics card until the new one arrives . . . no problem.
Monitor your CPU temps closely to insure you have good contact between the heatsink and the CPU through the thermal paste. If your CPU temps are 'high', you might consider re-applying the thermal paste, since you are now an expert at re-installing that heatsink
@Alle82 However the metallic bracket will not attach as it is wider than the 2 existing ones I have removed.
Still waiting for your photo to be moderator approved
I thought all three HDD cages were the same size?? If not, can you install your HDD into one of the other cages you removed that will fit in the bottom? I would put it in the further back position, away from your lower front intake fan.
OK, you photo is visible now. Good job on the PSU!
Yes, that is where I would move the HDD, if you insist on having internal HDD storage. As you can see, there are varying opinions about the effectiveness of the top intake fan. I believe that in this air flow starved case, and particularly with a full length graphics card dividing the case into upper and lower, any additional air movement back toward the top exhaust fan is helpful.
@Alle82 Should I just keep the hard drive on the bottom without attaching it?
NO! Disconnect the upper system HDD. Remove the mounting hardware attached to it. And screw it into one of the lower HDD cages. Re-install the lower HDD cage back to where it originally was. And re-connect the power and same SATA cables. Store the leftover chassis hardware in a ZipLoc marked Dell XPS 8930.
That said, I would leave the system HDD where Dell put it and just add the lower front case fan. That upper front case fan position has marginal grill area and serves just as well for passive airflow around the HDD, imo.
Hello, quick update in the meantime my RTX 2080 S is in shipment and the Corona Virus infects us all in UK..
I have installed the 2 front fans using the Alienware bracket on the bottom and some plastic ties for the top front one.
Both fans have been connected on the PSU via Molex to 3 pin connector.
Although using plastic ties is not an elegant solution it seems to be quite effective.
As for the temperature monitoring , my GTX 1070 dropped from 83 C to 80 at high load thanks to the bottom fan and I did notice that the top fan works less thanks for the overall air flow improvement during high load.
So far so good, looking forward to install the new GPU and see if my case is still able to deal with that beast.
Thanks @Anonymous , I followed all your instructions and I am almost good to go.
Looks GREAT! Nice job on the cables. That is about as good as it gets with those long monster cables. Zip ties are a good mount for the Noctua fans with the silicone corners for vibration mitigation.
Tip; If you open you photos in MS Paint and orient them the way you want them to show, and 'save', this platform will not rotate them differently. Even if the are already oriented correctly on your computer, 'saving' them in MS paint will keep them from being rotated in this forum.
So if my XPS 8930 came with an RTX 2060 then it must have an 850watt PSU?
Not unless you ordered it that way. The Sales page doesn't warn about needing the 850W PSU unless you choose the RTX 2060 SUPER (8 GB RAM). If you choose the RTX 2060 (6 GB RAM), you don't get that PSU warning. So you can have the 460 W PSU with the RTX 2060 (6 GB RAM).
Go to the Support page and put in your Service Tag and click the link for System Configuration. If you have the 850W PSU, it should be listed there.
My XPS 8930 SE lists this on the configuration page: 321-BEUV : Gold Standard PSU with Special Edition Silver Bezel Plastic Chassis (850W)

I hope the new GPU will not bring too much heat.
@Anonymous thank you so much for your support.

Hello @Anonymous
I am waiting 2 front intake fans and I was wondering if it is possible to move the hard drive below to the bottom of the case.
However the metallic bracket will not attach as it is wider than the 2 existing ones I have removed.
Even though there are a lot of cables , I undertand it is worth adding another front intake fan on the top of the case.
How can this achieved?
Should I just keep the hard drive on the bottom without attaching it?

Hello
I have finally installed the RTX 2080 S and it fitted perfectly in the same space of my GTX 1070.
There is still 1 cm between the card and the fan bracket
I did test the PC in VR and in terms of temps I am very happy of the follow:
It all seems good , but of course requires more testing.
one thing that is really weird is that the PSU fan does not kick in even with the RTX 2080 S...
I can see that the fan spins when I switch on the PC but then it stops.
@Anonymous you are a star.
