XPS 8930 SE, Killer WiFi 6 AX1650 upgrade?
Hello,
I purchased a XPS 8930 SE (Core i9-9900K) and it came with the Killer WiFi AC1535 card. I am debating upgrading it to the Killer WiFi 6 AX1650. I have read literature on both and have searched the forum. Has anyone does this upgrade? Any feedback or issues I should expect?
Thanks in advance

The Killer WiFi 6 AX1650 was never tested/validated by Dell in the XPS 8930.The XPS 8930 disassembly instructions can be found in the online XPS 8930 Service Manual.DELL-Chris M

Interesting. It is not on the XPS 8930/XPS 8930 SE parts page. But you are correct, I see it on the XPS 8930 SE sales page. I found a Dell part number for it on the Alienware Aurora R9 parts page = TKNXX
The problem is that it shows as not for sale by itself. So a user who has purchased the retail version will need to post their results.

But Dell offers it as an option while configuring the machine. That's why i'm curious about this upgrade.

I purchased the 8930SE with The AX1650 pre-installed, it shows the same parts # as the R9.
As for issues,
Getting newest Drivers is annoying... Updating Killer Control Center more so... Had uninstall, then reinstall via windows store to get most up to date.
Perf is stable, but im being bottle-necked by an older router (An Asus AC66 i think)

Thank you for your input. I've heard a lot of stories about the driver and updates. I also read that equivalent Intel chip is more superior. I guess I'll need to start experimenting.

As for Chip Superiority, there is no difference. BECAUSE IT IS AN INTEL CHIP. The Drivers are also Intel, (just provided by Killer). Under Hardware manager, it even says driver provider is Intel.
The following is a quote from my PC under WiFi properties:
"Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Description: Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650x 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (200NGW)
Driver version: 21.40.2.2"
Note that the driver version is the same as the most up to date Intel one...

Thank you for this information. Is there huge difference with Bluetooth 5.0? The main reason I am looking to upgrade is the extended range of the Bluetooth and its connectivity. I use an AC router and its an over kill to get a AX wireless card for the computer.

1. I say ditch it and get a Kinivo USB-dongle. Antenna ends-up outside machine.
2. WiFi is fine for surfing and email, but for speed ... always use a wire (ethernet cable) .

If you only have an AC router, the AX card will work but not give you the speeds as designed. I have the 1650 and it works well with an AX router.. (2400 Mbps) but does vary with conditions.
The thing about the drivers seems to be the factory install causes problems and Killer Wireless has a removal app that will clean the system before installing new drivers.
