Just got my new 8930 and have ordered the upgraded T57JF heatsink/fan off eBay.
But I'm wondering if I could buy (or make a harness) that would let me run the cpu fan at full all the time but keep the sensor connected to the header to avoid the BIOS error?
My room is already got a few fans and the extra noise won't bother me at all.

What would happen if you disconnected the 4th pin which if for PWM?
Would it just be running at 12volt and be able to sense the speed?

5 Minute stress test on Intel Extreme Tuning Utility Temp was always around 65C

Well, It's interesting.
Both of the fans (cpu and upper) were standard wiring colors (blue is PWM which controls fan speed).
I used a small screw driver and bent the clip in the plug and pulled the blue wire out.
Both run at full speed all the time.
The stock CPU fan at full speed is hands down the loudest cpu fan I can ever remember (but my room is already loud so I don't notice it)
The case fan exhausts a TON of air.
Idle temps are around 80F/25C
I ran a benchmark and at 100% the hottest any cor got was 144F/63C
That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

It is not unreasonable for a CPU @ 65 watt TDP.
Once you get the new blower style fan/heatsink installed, the CPU blower fan will not need to run at 100%, as long as you have a 120mm top exhaust fan. If you do not have a 120mm top exhaust fan, you should make that upgrade at the same time as your blower style fan/heatsink install. Be sure to have thermal paste on hand.

That would turn it into a 3-pin fan . . . and 3-pin fans do not throw the BIOS start-up error.

I’ve got the fan on order. Should I use it as a 3 pin and the cpu fan as 4? Or both as 4?

For the CPU blower fan, I would leave it at 4-pin. For the 120mm top exhaust fan, it would depend what fan you ordered. If it is a quiet fan at 100% rpm, then there is no need to slow it down with modulation (Noctua FLX). If it is a loud fan or has a particularly high rpm, then you might want to use 4-pin, so it only roars when necessary. You will also need to order the Aurora R5/6/7 top exhaust fan bracket for your 120mm fan, if you are upgrading from a 92mm top exhaust fan.

I'm looking over the pics of the Mainboard (can't open my case at the moment).
Is there a header for the front case fan? (If not fine by me, I'll probably get a sata power to fan speed controller (or just a straight 12volt harness) for multi fans and hook both the case fans to it.

No. If you are adding one front case fan, you could use a Y-slpitter cable connected to the top fan header and power both fans (top & front). If you are adding two front case fans, I would use SATA power and a SATA to 3-pin fan adapter cable for the two front fans.

Stress temps get it up to 64C (Which is still pretty good, Right?)
I guess I was just expecting too much.

I'm a little underwelmed with my new cpu heatsink and noctua 120MM nf-f12 (3 pin)
Its 5-7 higher than my previous config (Stock cpu cooler at full rpm and 90MM fan at full rpm)
It is quieter (but my room is already loud so I didn't even notice it the way it was).

Would I get any lower temp using the case fan it came with?

if I'm doing the math right
AVC fan can max out at 148.9cfm
Noctua fan max is 54.97cfm (93.4 cubic meters/hr)

Ok I must be mixing up F and C - F is higher but at C its about the same.
So all in all to make it quieter I stayed the same. around 65C

Sorry to hear that. What are you CPU temps now on those stress tests you reported up thread? Did you get good, even contact with the CPU/thermal paste/heatsink?
