XPS 8930, graphics card for animation software?
Hi All,
Just bought a XPS 8930 and now see I need to change the graphics card to run SideFX Houdini (3D animation software). My question is, what would be the best card to use from the list of supported cards from the SideFX requirements website?
- NVIDIA GeForce 1080, 1070, 1060
- NVIDIA GeForce 980, 970
- NVIDIA GeForce Titan, Titan X, Titan Black
- NVIDIA GeForce Titan Z (single GPU for rendering or compute only)
- NVIDIA GeForce 780 Ti, 780, 770, 760
- NVIDIA GeForce 690
Thank you

Not only allowable slot-space , and case-cooling abilities ... but you will probably be limited by the (likely small) power-supply currently installed.
I've got GTX-1070's installed in both of my Aurora's (and that combo is excellent) ... but both have 850w Power-Supplies.
If this is the main-purpose for this machine ... I think I would have opted for a Precision Workstation instead (similarly-config-ed ... they aren't that much more money).

Thanks for the reality check - I have come to that conclusion. Just have to return this machine and get the other with the right graphics card installed
