XPS 8940, Better 3rd party cooler

Hello there

I would greatly appreciate any help to find a new/better 3rd party cooler for my XPS 8940. It came with the thin and small stock cooler and is overheating the whole time. I got a i9-10900 processor with 128 GB of RAM and I need this computer to generate some GIS layers. These jobs take 2-4 hrs every time and I can see that the processor is throttling or C° 97+ all the time.

I tried the Noctua 15S but the problem is there is no space for the bracket under the motherboard. The stock fan screws directly into the chassis from above.

Thank you very much

@SteveK318  Alright sir. Get mine fan holder today. Gonna try it out  !

@bertro514 Thanks !  I just wonder can we use the stock CPU cooler to fit into bottom front case to blow towards the GPU? Stock CPU cooler seems to have better airflow compare to stock exhaust fan

I have the same Dell config as you

I haven’t had a chance to install my Noctua heat sink and fans yet.  I’m really curious if the 3070 made by Dell has adequate cooling?  Has anyone checked the heat sink and if it’s actually making contact?

@SteveK318 @bertro514  After more careful measuring of the different levels of the front of the case today, I've amended both the single and double fan frames.

@Jon-62 - Thanks ! If there's one thing I'm good at, it's procrastinating !! I haven't done anything with it yet !!

@studmonkey77  I've yet to get either printed.  I'll only be getting the double fan frame printed as I have a short graphics card, just waiting for a quote.

@Kelvin Lee The CPU fan should work too. They're the same size, and honestly I thought they were the exact same model without any difference in quality/airflow, that's why I didn't bother taking the CPU fan off the heatsink to use it there. It's just sitting in a box somewhere. That's a great idea. I'll take a look at it and maybe change it! Thanks!!

@bertro514  The stock rear 80mm 5 blade fan will be designed for air flow, whilst the 7 blade fan on the pancake heatsink should be designed for air pressure.

@Jon-62 - yup, my case fan is 20mm as well. The CPU fan is ~25mm.

@SteveK318  I've the same 7-blade fan from the cooler, but the 5-blade case fan is a Delta Electronics, DellP/N: D4NJ4-A00 12Vdc 0.40A.  The Delta fan is also thinner, at 20mm.

@SteveK318 , thanks for posting those pics! Looks like the CPU fan has lots more CFM. So it might be worth taking it off the heatsink and using it instead of the case fan down there. You just gave me stuff to do this week ☺️

@bertro514 - Just curious... is your name Bert ?

You're welcome ! I think I'm sticking with my Noctua 80mm down there anyhow.

I actually had an incident with my Dell 7 blade fan and my fingertip, and it's now a 6 blade fan ! And yes it hurt ... took a little chunk off under my nail !!  All is well now !!

But I do have the CPU fan from my old HP, which appears to be the same one if I wanted to swap it out ...
