XPS 8940, Better 3rd party cooler

Hello there

I would greatly appreciate any help to find a new/better 3rd party cooler for my XPS 8940. It came with the thin and small stock cooler and is overheating the whole time. I got a i9-10900 processor with 128 GB of RAM and I need this computer to generate some GIS layers. These jobs take 2-4 hrs every time and I can see that the processor is throttling or C° 97+ all the time.

I tried the Noctua 15S but the problem is there is no space for the bracket under the motherboard. The stock fan screws directly into the chassis from above.

Thank you very much

@SteveK318 Definitely! I even cable managed and sleeved the inside of the 8940 for fun. Pointless? Maybe. Probably. But fun. I'm really interested to see how those Wonder Snails perform. I suspect if there is a Fuma 3 (highly likely) it would use them as the stock fans.

@SteveK318 I agree about RGB. I hate it. (I'm also an old fart), but to each their own I guess!

@FartManly - yeah, I'm going with pointless !! I'm an old fart who just cares how it works, couldn't give a sheet what it looks like inside. I don't ever want to see an rgb light in anything I own !!

@studmonkey77 - thanks for the pictures !!  For the one below the gpu is there any reason you didn't mount it 1 hole closer to the side panel using the square holes identified in @Jon-62 's picture ?  I'm thinking I may remove the GPU bracket and mount the fan as close to the side panel as possible as to not blow the fan directly into the PSU. I may tweak the fan bracket to bring as far to the side as possible.  If I remove the GPU support, I may just buy an adjustable one online or design something else for it.

@SteveK318 I mounted it in the holes that jon-62 showed. At least i think i did.

@studmonkey77 - to me, it looks like you missed by one ! 20210606_045346_000315.jpg

But if it's working for you, that's great !!   The offset heights of @Jon-62's design look good !!

@Davide123 Why did you use the “co” version of the arctic fan?

@SteveK318  Yea i may have missed it by one. It wouldnt make that big of a difference by moving it one spot. He may have done it that way in the picture he shows to give extra room for the cables that go into the motherboard.

From experience that type of fan turns out to be quieter and more reliable than the normal type.                              It is a little more expensive. Little. Keep in mind that I use the PC for many hours a day and I put silence and reliability in the first place. Yep you can get something more, even among Arctic s. But it would make little to no sense, in economic and performance terms (to me)

@SteveK318 @studmonkey77  The positions of the fasteners are critical for the twin fan frame as the upper two fasteners have no flexibility for a one pitch displacement.  With the single fan frame only using the two lower points, there is the possibility for a displacement without any problems.

@FartManly did the push pull fans make a bigger difference on the cpu cooler compared to just using one fan as a push?

@studmonkey77 - yeah, I guess 1 hole doesn't matter. I'm just going to try and bring mine as close to the side panel as possible, as to avoid sending all the air into the PSU...

@studmonkey77 - ok, well maybe not as much !!!  Maybe even add a baffle !!  Time to get creative !!

@SteveK318 the only way to not blow the air into the psu with that bottom fan is to not install a fan down there.

Hi all,

Just recently ordered an 8940 and a Vetroo V5 cooler and was wondering if someone would be so kind as to provide some details regarding installation. Will I need specific screws to make it fit?

Kind Regards & Many Thanks
