XPS 8940, Windows 22H2, MaxxAudio Codec issue

Hi there, upgraded to Windows 11 22H2 and now my Maxx Audio Waves application wont load.  Says "The waves audio driver is not supported by your current audio codec".

The sounds are also not right anymore.

I am running Maxx Audio Waves version 5.0.59.0

If you need to contact Dell support, click on Get Help Now button on the bottom right of your screen.  To troubleshoot the issue, they may ask you to reinstall the operating system to the same version it was shipped with.

If your machine is out of warranty and you accept community members help, just simply uninstall Realtek driver (tick the box to remove software) and reboot your machine.  Give it a few minutes, Windows will repair by installing proper driver.  If your Device Manager still doesn't show new Realtek driver installed, you can manually download this driver and install it.  No need to install Waves, it will automatically install after Realtek.

@msuk  - Have you checked the Microsoft Store for a newer version of "Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application for Dell" for Win 11?

If there's a newer version, manually set a System Restore point to be safe. Then use Add/Remove to uninstall the existing version and install the newer version you downloaded from the MS store, assuming there is a newer version...

Hello, Yes done that running the latest version

https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/waves-maxxaudio-pro-for-dell-2022/9PHT5D9MM13D?hl=en-in&gl=in

MaxxAudio Pro 2022 Version 5.0.59.0

And still the same error.

If I completely remove the Realtek Audio drivers, Windows 11 automatically installs 6.0.9228.1 which is the latest version.

Waves then loads but all the features, pre-sets etc are locked.  You cant select external speakers or adjust anything.

Thanks

Are these external speakers?

Power PC off completely and disconnect all speakers.  Then power on and when you get to desktop, plug front L/R speakers into PC.  Now wait to see if Waves pops up and asks what you connected. Select best option from the menu.

Next, if you have rear L/R speakers, plug them in and wait for Waves. If you have sub-woofer, plug that in last and wait for Waves.

Now see if the Waves Control Panel Playback screen correctly recognizes the speakers and settings can be changed.

Hello, installed the Realtek driver 6.0.9228.1, A09 and Waves did not install afterwards by itself.  Left it for a few days and manually installed Waves from he MS Store and still the same Codec error.

And one more thingy... Open the Win 11 Sound screen and make sure Realtek is set as your Output device.

Try this...

  1. At desktop, open a CMD prompt window, Run as administrator

  2. At the prompt, type in: chkdsk c: /r and press Enter.
Accept offer to run chkdsk at next boot. Reboot PC and chkdsk will run before Windows loads, so be patient. Note any error messages shown after chkdsk finishes and/or review the chkdsk log.

  3. Assuming no "unfixed" chkdsk errors, open a CMD window as in #1

  4. Type in:  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press Enter.
Be sure to include a space in front of each / and note any error messages when that's done.

  5. Assuming no "unfixed" DISM errors, at the CMD prompt, type in: sfc /scannow and press Enter. Be sure to include a space in front of the / and note any errors when that's done.

  6. Assuming no "unfixed" sfc errors, reboot PC and see if Waves will find the codec it needs.

Sorry 'bout that...

Guess you're just going to have to wait until they fix this. In meanwhile, you may want to disable Waves so it can't load at every boot by disabling the service in Start>Run>services.msc and reboot. Then see if Realtek Audio will work with whatever codec are currently installed...

Hello, the interesting thing is the waves services is stuck in starting.  I cannot stop it and uninstalling Waves does not remove the service. This could be the issue?
