9550, Bios setup from external HDMI monitor

Hi

My XPS 15 9550 's built-in screen got problem, flickering, horizontal lines.

So I connect to a portable monitor via HDMI.  I found I cannot see Bios setup from this external monitor, because it only turns on when OS starts.

Can I see the Bios setup from this external monitor?  otherwise after this built-in screen is gone, I will lose this computer.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

Jin.

This forum post may help. Also if that does not work you can try disconnecting the LCD cable from the screen and the system should boot using the external monitor.

Hi, @JOcean

Thanks for your clue.

I had to press Fn+F8 instead of what your reference page says (F1 or Fn+F1).

Sorry I do not accept your solution because it can lead other people to try it.

However I really appreciate you of your solution and clue.  Without it, it must be very tricy to sort it out.

Thanks @JOcean

It was not the first choice but a good many users will, eventually have to open up their systems. Whether it is to add RAM or an SSD, or to perform some other upgrade it is almost unavoidable. But I do see your point. And most of all I am happy to see you were able to come to a solution!
