DVD fails diagnostics and does not play movies

My DVD fails diagnostics with error code WCD43-G4G.  Does anyone know what this code means?  Does the DVD need to be replaced?

Where did you see that error?  It does not look like a Dell diagnostics error.

What model system?

What operating system?

Note that Windows 10 does not contain a DVD decoder codec - that must be purchased separately.

The optical drive test generally requires a writer - if your DVD is a writeable drive, the test further requires a blank, scratch writeable DVD to complete the test.

If the system won't boot from a verified, known-readable, known-bootable DVD -- chances are the laser is toast.

To actually play DVDs, Windows 10 requires the addition of a coder/decoder -- it doesn't natively have one.  One open-access one is VLC Media Player.  Otherwise you will need to purchase something like CyberMedia's Power DVD, etc.

 optical drive test.

Dell XPS L501X

I tried multiple types of media.  I put in a bootable DVD and it would not boot.  Nothing plays, but the optical drive is recognized by diagnostics and Windows 10.

What operating system?

The operating system is Windows 10 Professional.  at version 1909.

curious why i can't find the diagnostic code anywhere.

I was using VLC to try and play the DVD.  It failed.
