Dell xps 13 control and fn keys randomly not working

The laptop is about four years old. The left control and fn keys stopped working. They occasionally will resume to work but don’t work most of the time. External keyboard works fine. Is this a hardware problem? If it possible some debris got in and cause this issue? Can this be fixed DIY?
