XPS 13 9370, Ubuntu 16.04, webcam not detected

Hi !

I can't use my webcam, it is not considered as a detected device. Anybody as the same issue? Any clues about this kind of problem? I'm running Ubuntu 16.04, my system and my BIOS are up to date.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Dell-Alan D

Thank you, the patch seems to be available right now and work as expected.

Thank you so much for your support.

It is a firmware problem.

The webcam works well under w10.

Someone here posted a fix, but I saw that Dell engineers are working on it. So we must expect for a linux solution.

Hi @marychin, the patch has been delayed with no ETA. This article suggests trying the following -

XPS 9360 / 9370: Camera Non-Functional with 1.50 Firmware in Ubuntu 16.04 | Dell US

  1. To apply the fix run the following in terminal:
    sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04
    xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04
  2. Reboot the system.
  3. To test, install the cheese camera app and run it.
  4. If you do not have it installed you can install it using this command in terminal:
    sudo apt-get install cheese

I hope this helps.
