XPS 15 9500 External Drives only at USB 2.0 speeds

Hi everyone,

I've been in contact with support for some days now, and they've tried troubleshooting with many different options, but nothing seems to work.

All external drives I connect to my xps 15 9500, be it using USB-C to usb-c, or using a Dock, are seen on windows 11 as USB 2.0. Have reinstalled all drivers, changed cables, etc.

Support is at the point of suggesting a full windows reinstall, but I really wanted to avoid it.

Just wanted to check with other xps 15 9500 owners that you have no problem having devices connect as USB 3.0, be it on windows 10 or 11?

Thank you very much!

So how did you solve it? I have the same issue on my 9500.

Hello,

I did two things to solve. First I went back to Windows 10, and then I had to try about 4 or 5 different cables until I found one that would connect as usb 3.0. Just because they are usb-c doesn't mean they support the faster speeds.

Hope this helps.
