XPS 15 9500, after updates, slow restart

I have installed dell critical updates then the system takes long time to restart

New Dell XPS 9500

If I shutdown then boot again, fast start is present

Do i have to do system restore using DellAssist app?

OS:  Windows 10

Confirmed - I encountered this issue after some updates on 26th Sept.

Instead of restoring the whole system I first tried to uninstall the updates one by one via Windows' uninstaller and after uninstalling the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver system booted fast again (~5s vs 40s before).

Windows then auto-installed an Realtek-Driver - so sound works again AND system boots fast.

I had this problem on my XPS 9500, and it was the Realtek A10 (6.0.9210) driver. I rolled back to A09 (6.0.9098) and it's booting on restart nice & quick again. I used Device Manger to roll back, but you can also get the driver from the Dell support page for the XPS 9500.

makes you wonder who tries these changes at DELL before releasing... got the same problem here with new 15 9500.  Thanks for sharing the solution!

Same issue!  Updated via the Dell "SupportAssist" app (Network, Sound, etc.,) and now it takes almost five minutes to boot. During the install portion of the bloated Realtek software, the progress bar just stopped at 50% after over an hour. Removed the Realtek garbage and the system boots normally.

I can confirm that the problem is resolved by rolling back the Realtek Audio Drivers from Version 6.0.9210.1, A10 (Release date 23 Sep 2021) to Version 6.0.9098.1, A09 (Release date 01 Feb 2021).

My BIOS load time was taking 2 minutes and 23 seconds with the newer audio driver. After I rolled back to the older audio driver, my BIOS load time was reduced to 13 seconds. The actual BIOS load times are actually slightly faster, but my stopwatch times include minor delays before the Dell BIOS loading screen appears and minor delays before the Windows 10 logon screen appears.

Thank you to those who contributed to this resolution:

- Resolution instructions refined by rjohnson10101 (1134301715)

Here are the resolution instructions that worked for me (copied from rjohnson10101):
Device Manager -> Sound, video, and game controllers -> Realtek(R) Audio.
Right-click and disabling does solve the issue.
Also, right-click -> properties -> driver -> Roll Back Driver also solves the issue, and you can keep your sound.

Same issue here. Dell XPS 9500, i7, 4K, 32 GB. BIOS v1.9.1. All drives are up to date. Rebooting takes an excruciating 2-3 minutes, system seems to stall at the Dell logo (with the circling circles/balls below)  for a long time and then it loads windows. If I cold start the computer, it takes 13-15 seconds! Fix this Dell!

Thanks Chris! I can confirm that rolling back the Realtek(R) Audio driver has solved the issue.

I have the same issue. I fix it. I click "Roll Back Driver" on the properties of Realtek(R). Now, booting time is okay.

The same realtek update is ready for download as Windows driver update from Microsoft with the same version number 6.0.9210.1

Anyone tried it? does it causes the same troubles?

I had exactly the same issue on my DELL XPS 15 9500 and appreciate the fix being posted here.

Just a further note that it is important to use the 'Rollback' feature within Device Manager to roll back from the Realtek v6.0.9210.1 to the v6.0.9098.1 driver, as Windows Update will insistently & automatically update to the broken v6.0.9210.1 driver if v6.0.9098.1 has been simply reinstalled from a DELL update file.

I confirm that Microsoft update causes the same problem as that of Dell app. Revert back driver definition solve the problem. Try to hide the update of Realtek if offered by Microsoft to avoid the issue

I could not Rollback Realtek driver from Device Manager, but Dell Support page has link to current as well as old working driver that I downloaded and slow reboot got fixed
