XPS 9500 U-chip vs H-chip?
Hello everyone,
Last Monday my Dell xps 9550 sadly got stolen. As an engineering student that mostly works with 3D design, rendering and software simulations, and with the new academic year starting in less than two weeks, i'm a bit in a hurry to find a new one.
I thought that it would have been a no-brainer to get the new 9500 with an i7. However, it seems as if you can only get them with an i7-10750U. I thought the Intel U-chips were only meant for low-power laptops, and i'm wondering if it could keep up with the sometimes high workloads that I have to work with?
I'm also not really fond of bumping it up to an i9. Previous models seemed to have thermal issues resulting in poor performance in an extensive usecase. The fact that it would also result in a €500 increase in price doesn't really help either.
So my questions to you are:
What is the performance like for an i7-10750U, how does it compare to the previous model with an i7-9750H?
Most of the reviews you can find online are with an H version of an i7, is it still possible to get this version?

@Wouter_D I agree with ejn63 above. The Dell US site does not list this CPU, and if you go the ark.intel.com page for Core 10th Gen i7 CPUs here, you will see that the CPU named on your site doesn't exist in Intel's lineup.

It has to be a typo - there is no such CPU.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer, I also thought that was the case.
However, on the Belgian (Europe) website, it clearly states that it's an i7 - 10750U (as you can see on the image below)
Could this just be a typo?

It's not clear where you're seeing 10750U -- the XPS 9500 ships with the H CPUs only.
The XPS 9500 ships with (when equipped with an i7) the 10750H, which is a slightly more capable CPU than the older 9750H.
The 13" systems ship with the lower-power "U" CPUs (and the successor ones, that end in G7).
