battery: plugged in, not charging

Hello,

today the led in the front of my laptop started blinking amber and the battery icon shows the msg "battery: plugged in, not charging"

If i remove the cable from the charger the computers turns off.

I have updated the BIOS and everything else suggested in Dell's site.

Is there anything else one can try?

Thanks,

gusW

Also, looking into the forum it looks like no user got a solution from the Dell team (other than changing hardware). Is this correct? Thanks, gusW

First thing to check is whether the system recognizes the AC adapter or not - F2 at powerup.  If it does, but the battery is not recognized, overwhelming odds are the battery is bad.

If the adapter isn't recognized (shows unknown), in order:  try a new OEM Dell adapter;  if it too isn't recognized, replace the DC power jack - and if that doesn't net you a recognized AC adapter, the mainboard is bad. If the adapter is not recognized, the battery will not charge.
