wont turn on. key board flashes once

This model is an Alienware m15 -- not an XPS.
Basic troubleshooting:
Unplug system, remove base cover and disconnect the battery from the system board. Hold the power button for 30 sec.
With the battery disconnected, plug in the AC adapter, verifying that its LED is ON and stays ON. If it does not, replace the adapter with a new one.
With a good AC adapter, try powering up. If it will, but not with the battery disconnected, the battery is bad.
If it still won't power up, the mainboard is bad (the RAM is soldered in these so it can't be removed).
