Best practices for RHEL (Linux) LVM and EXT4 filesystems

Hi All,

Looking for some definitive best practices around setting up the file systems over some XtremIO storage.

At the moment we have

     RHEL 6.x

     Native LVM

     Native Path Management

     EXT4 file systems

The LVM is stripping together a number of XtremIO LUNs (customer has a standard LUN size method, and different hosts have different numbers of the XtremIO LUNs stripped together based on needed space)

The logical/virtual volume is created directly on top of the LVM volume (no partition table, so no logical volume within a partition, the hole disk is used, the logical volumes will be expanded over time as needed)

A single EXT4 file system has been created over the top of each logical volume (default creation options).

the LVM volume has its default offset (which is 1M).

The issue we appear to be having

Poor deduplication of data that should deduplicate well.

     Quite high misaligned IO rates

Hi Glenn.

Did you get any response to your thread? We seem to be having a similar issue.

Michael
