I was offered and accepted an update to SupportAssist to version 5.2. No problems there, I can open it and it runs. What does happen is that I receive a notification on the Windows 11 notification pane stating there is a new software update from SupportAssist.

When I open the application it tells me that there is a newer version of the OS Recovery tools / plug-in, that this requires rewriting a disk partition, so that I shall only start the process if I am sure I can leave the computer connected to the power until the installation is fully complete.

I close everything and agree to proceed. It starts a progress bar passes step 1 and 2, but seems to fail while downloading on step 3. There is a message (I could not capture) stating that I should not worry, that SupportAssist will keep trying to install it on the background and would let me know when then.

Then my worry is that, if I reboot my computer while is downloading it on the background, I may broke the OS recovery tools from F12.

I go to the web page of drivers and downloads for my service tag and the latest version available of anything similar to the OS Recovery is called "Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update" and the latest version I see for my service tag is "Version: 5.5.16.2, A00", "Release Date : 09 Jul 2026".

It is listed as installed and I see it like "Alienware SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Alienware Update" and it matches the version.

So, at least from the web page it seems there is not a newer version of the OS recovery, so I do not know what the new version of SupportAssist is trying to install, as it is very rare for a new update to be offered by it and it still not be visible on the web page. Normally is the other way around.

I wanted to validate if anyone is facing the same issue with this new 5.2 version of SupportAssist and if I should worry about rebooting, while it may be attempting to download in the background.

My guess is that this is a false notification, there is no newer version and when it tries to download and install, it realizes that I already have the latest version installed and that is why it fails.

But I want to see if anyone else is having this issue and how to resolve it.
