While running a game like Rocket League, my GPU fan tachometer shows that the fan is hitting 6000 RPM every ~5-10 seconds and then dropping back down to like 1000.
My GPU is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080.
I tried setting a custom fan curve, however it seems its being overridden. Any ideas?
I can verify it is going at 6000 RPM, other apps confirm it & you can see/hear it.
I found the problem and the solution though. The GPU (GeForce RTX 2080ti) fan, without any extra programs, does not operate at a high enough speed to keep the GPU cool. This results in the GPU heating up to ~80-81 degrees celsius. At this point, the GPU goes into emergency mode and the fans are put at the highest possible speed (6100 RPM. Note: afterburner at 100% fan speed can only operate at 5000 RPM). This results in a constant loop every 10 seconds or so, especially when playing a game, of the fan going from 1000 RPM to 6100 RPM.
Instead, I set a custom fan curve to prevent my GPU from ever reaching 80 degrees. Fan is much much quieter, only gets up to ~3500-4000 RPM maximum, and is now so much more manageable. The only other change I made was taking off the side panel of the case to allow for more air flow. It's honestly unfortunate that this was necessary, but I'm just glad the problem is solved.
I dont know what kind of fan speed app you use, but it should be around the 800- 1100...if 6000 then i should uninstall that program because those messurements are simply not possible for that type of gpu.
And this is a community accepted solution? you say a fan on a RTX 2080 TI cant handle the gpu cool? commo'n, better take a indepth look of that chard, im pretty sure the problem is somewhere else because your fan from your chard is still running 3500-4000?
i use a RTX 3080, and she flows around the 600-1100 rpm...so why are your fans trolling?
