I have the worst luck with bios updates with these machines. I was having a no luck with my R11 with update the bios until I went to Windows Update and there was a view all updates there that had the bios update and others so I checked the box that said Alienware bios 1.0.7 clicked install then walk out of the room and came back 15 mins later. It took alittle more time but the update went through. I was scared !

Also, I have always updated BIOS changes incrementally, never jumping over to the newest BIOS file.

Does the file extension should be .rcv? The .exe file cannot be found in the update..

No, you shouldn't be dealing directly with a .rcv file. 

I downloaded BIOS update 1.0.13 from Dell's Product Support for Alienware Aurora R9 / Drivers and Downloads...

As you can see, it is a .exe...I double clicked on it where it was stored in downloads on my C drive, my computer closed Windows automatically and began the BIOS update and then automatically restarted Windows with no problems.

Why this particular operation seems to always work OK for me and not everyone will be a question that will plague mankind through the ages. 

To answer your question directly; the file is an executable and if you cannot find the .exe file than it was not downloaded properly for some unknown reason.  I can only suggest trying again and be sure you have shut down all unnecessary programs when doing the download just to be on the safe side.

The .rcv version posted on the website is a separate file format for use with a bios recovery operation.  You wouldn't click that link to update it in windows by clicking on the application file.  It doesn't work that way. 

Thanks for the file and explanation. But still the same issue I'm having comes out. UAC does appear and clicked yes, however the program disappears after that: It appears in task manager about 2~3 seconds.

The exe does nothing. I'm at 1.0.11 now, found at msinfo.

Also, consider whether you really need the BIOS update.  Any time you update bios, there is a small inherent risk of bricking the PC.
