Before you install any BIOS update, consider this =
* If your Desktop is running fine, a BIOS update is not a requirement
* If your Desktop is running fine, a BIOS update that does NOT address hardware is never "critical". An example would be Security Advisory
* A failed BIOS update could break the CMOS chip resulting in the need for a motherboard replacement. For any out of warranty but still functioning Desktop, ask yourself, "Do the fixes shown in the BIOS update apply to me?". If the BIOS update fails and breaks the motherboard CMOS, Dell will not replace it for free. So are the BIOS updates worth the risk? Your call

Prior to installing a Desktop BIOS update =
* Go into the BIOS. Record onto paper the current settings in every section and sub-section. After a BIOS update, use that to cross check

Desktop BIOS update instructions =
* The Desktop is not connected to a dock, printer, USB hard drives, USB sound device, etc. Just have the monitor, mouse, and keyboard connected to the Desktop
* Download/Save the latest BIOS file to the Windows desktop
* Close/end task all unnecessary software applications (Browsers, Dell SupportAssist, Dell Update Application, Dell Display Manager, Dell Display and Peripheral Manager, Steam, Anti-virus, etc.)
* Find the saved BIOS file on the Windows desktop
* Right click the file and choose, "Run as administrator". Note, you do not need to "extract" the file. Just run it
* Follow the prompted instructions. The Desktop should reboot on its own, do not force it

From Rockstar Tesla1856 =  For BIOS-Firmware updates being run inside Windows, I also temporarily Suspend BDE (BitLocker) and VBS (Memory Integrity), if enabled. 

If troubleshooting with Dell Technical Support, users should follow the guidance from the agent and update firmware accordingly.
